About the role#
Michigan United is hiring Canvassing Fellows for the 2026 election cycle. This is a temporary, full-time position focused on community outreach, voter mobilization, and leadership development. You will work under the supervision of staff to register and educate voters, while participating in a training program designed to build organizing skills and a deeper understanding of social justice movements. This role concludes on November 6, 2026.
What you'll do#
- Conduct direct voter contact primarily through door-to-door canvassing.
- Participate in daily stand-up meetings to receive instructions and debrief with your team.
- Complete assigned canvassing lists and record conversation details using the MiniVAN app.
- Execute a high-energy electoral canvass.
- Collect stories, videos, and photos for promotional use.
- Prepare and organize materials for daily fieldwork.
- Engage in ongoing training to develop organizing and leadership skills.
What you'll need#
- A commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice.
- Previous experience working with a diverse staff.
- Effective communication skills and comfort speaking with the public.
- A data-capable smartphone.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to drive to canvassing locations.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Location & details#
- Location: Lansing, Michigan.
- Modality: This is an on-site, in-person position.
- Compensation: $23 per hour for 40 hours per week.
- Bonus: A $1,000 retention bonus is available for staff who remain through November 6, 2026.
- Benefits: Includes health insurance, a health savings account or stipend, paid time off, paid sick time, and mileage reimbursement. Additional stipends for internet and phone usage are provided if using personal devices.
