About the role#
Michigan United is hiring Canvassing Fellows to join our Movement Politics Fellowship. This is a temporary, full-time position focused on leadership development and community organizing. You will work under the supervision of staff to register, educate, and mobilize voters for the 2026 election cycle. This role concludes on November 6, 2026.
What you'll do#
- Execute electoral canvassing programs using door-to-door tactics.
- Participate in daily stand-up meetings to receive instructions and updates.
- Prepare and organize materials for daily canvassing.
- Complete assigned canvassing lists and record conversation details in the MiniVAN app.
- Debrief daily with the canvassing team.
- Participate in a training curriculum to develop organizing skills.
- Ensure canvass data integrity.
- Provide feedback on training materials and curriculum.
- Collect stories, videos, photos, and other multimedia.
- Attend monthly staff development trainings.
- Conduct occasional relational outreach via SMS.
What you'll need#
- Commitment to Michigan United Action’s theory of change and a dedication to racial, gender, and economic justice.
- Desire to learn and grow as a leader or organizer.
- Previous experience working with a culturally, religiously, and economically diverse staff.
- Ability to talk to people, hear and share stories, and ask for action.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Effective communication skills and comfort working with the public.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to drive to and from canvassing locations.
- A data-capable smartphone.
Location & details#
- Location: Macomb, Michigan (On-site).
- Compensation: $23 per hour, 40 hours per week.
- Retention Bonus: $1,000 for staff remaining through November 6, 2026.
- Benefits: Health insurance and HSA or stipend after 90 days, paid time off, paid sick time, mileage reimbursement, and internet and phone stipends.
