About the role#
Michigan United is seeking Canvassing Fellows for the 2026 election cycle. This role is a temporary, full-time position based in Saginaw, Michigan. Fellows will participate in a leadership development program focused on community organizing, civic engagement, and social justice. The position concludes on November 6, 2026. This role is compensated at $23 per hour for 40 hours per week, with a $1,000 retention bonus available for staff who remain through the end of the term.
What you'll do#
- Conduct direct voter contact through door-to-door canvassing.
- Prepare and organize daily materials for field work.
- Complete assigned canvassing lists and record conversation details using the MiniVAN app.
- Attend monthly staff development and fellowship training sessions.
- Collect stories, videos, and photos to support organizational promotion.
- Participate in daily team meetings and debriefs.
What you'll need#
- A commitment to the Michigan United Action theory of change and a focus on racial, gender, and economic justice.
- Effective communication skills and comfort engaging with the public.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to drive to canvassing locations.
- A data-capable smartphone.
- A desire to learn and develop as an organizer.
