About the role#
Michigan United is seeking a Canvassing Fellowship Lead for the Fall 2026 election cycle. This is a full-time, temporary position based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, that runs through November 6, 2026. This role is part of a recruitment and training program designed for organizers passionate about racial, gender, and economic justice. You will work under the mentorship of staff to execute a large-scale voter contact program while developing your own leadership and organizing skills.
What you'll do#
- Conduct extensive voter outreach through door-to-door conversations.
- Provide daily support to the management team, including supporting launches and team onboarding.
- Shadow fellows in the field to provide feedback on conversation quality and ensure high standards.
- Prepare and organize materials for daily canvassing operations.
- Ensure the integrity of all canvass data collected via the MiniVAN app.
- Build team culture and morale while troubleshooting issues on the ground.
- Participate in ongoing training programs focused on organizing skills and social justice.
What you'll need#
- A strong commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice.
- Previous experience working with a diverse staff.
- Effective communication skills and comfort engaging with the public.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to drive to canvassing locations.
- A data-capable smartphone.
Location & details#
- Location: Kalamazoo, MI (On-site).
- Compensation: $25 per hour (40 hours per week).
- Bonus: $1,250 retention bonus for staff remaining through November 6, 2026.
- Benefits: Includes health insurance, health savings account or stipend (after 90 days), paid time off, paid sick time, overtime pay, mileage reimbursement, and stipends for internet and phone usage.
