Michigan United is seeking a Canvassing Fellowship Lead for the Fall 2026 election cycle. This is a temporary, full-time, on-site position based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, concluding on November 6, 2026. You will work under the mentorship of Michigan United staff to lead an electoral canvassing program, focusing on voter registration, education, and mobilization through door-to-door outreach.
What you'll do#
- Conduct extensive outreach through door-to-door conversations.
- Provide daily support to the management team, including supporting launches and onboarding processes.
- Shadow fellows in the field to provide feedback on door conversations and maintain high standards for metrics.
- Prepare and organize materials for daily canvassing operations.
- Ensure canvass data integrity by accurately recording details in the designated mobile application.
- Participate in daily briefings, debriefings, and ongoing training programs focused on organizing skills and movement building.
What you'll need#
- A strong commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice.
- Previous experience working with a diverse staff.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to engage comfortably with the public.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to drive to and from canvassing locations.
- A data-capable smartphone.
Location & details#
- Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan (On-site).
- Term: Fall 2026 (Ending November 6, 2026).
- Compensation: $25/hr (40 hours per week).
- Retention Bonus: $1,250 (contingent upon remaining on staff through November 6, 2026).
- Preferred majors: Political Science, Sociology, Communications, Public Health, and Criminal Justice.
