About the role#
Michigan United is seeking a Canvassing Fellow for the Fall 2026 election cycle. This fellowship is a leadership development program designed for individuals passionate about social justice, including economic equity, immigrant rights, and workers' rights. You will work under the mentorship of Michigan United staff to mobilize voters and build community power. This is a temporary, full-time position concluding on November 6, 2026.
What you'll do#
- Execute a high-energy electoral canvass through door-to-door conversations.
- Complete assigned canvassing lists and record conversation details accurately in the MiniVAN app.
- Participate in daily team meetings, debriefs, and material preparation.
- Collect stories, photos, and multimedia content to support organizational promotion.
- Attend monthly staff development trainings and fellowship-specific training sessions.
- Engage in occasional relational outreach via SMS to mobilize support for key campaigns.
What you'll need#
- A strong commitment to Michigan United Action’s theory of change and a dedication to racial, gender, and economic justice.
- A desire to learn and grow as a leader or organizer.
- Effective communication skills and comfortability engaging with the public.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Reliable transportation to travel to and from canvassing locations.
- A data-capable smartphone.
Location & details#
- Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $23 per hour (40 hours per week).
- Bonus: $1,000 retention bonus for staff remaining through November 6, 2026.
- Benefits: Includes health insurance, health savings account or stipend, paid time off, paid sick time, mileage reimbursement, and internet/phone stipends.
