About the role#
Michael Baker International is seeking a Traffic Engineering Intern to join the Transportation team in Santa Ana, California. This role provides project engineering and administrative support, including data gathering, calculations, and analysis for transportation projects. The intern will assist in managing project documents, coordinating presentation materials, and providing scheduling support for team meetings.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the development of traffic engineering design plans, such as signing, striping, traffic control, and signal designs.
- Support technical specialists in preparing engineering drawings, design information, and technical deliverables.
- Perform simple to moderate engineering calculations and routine analyses using standard traffic engineering techniques.
- Utilize GIS, AutoCAD, and MicroStation to develop exhibits, figures, and design documentation.
- Conduct field investigations, site visits, and data collection activities, including data input and verification.
- Prepare basic technical reports, correspondence, and project documentation.
- Complete assigned tasks under the guidance of senior technical staff or project managers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a part-time or full-time student in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Urban Planning.
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with GIS, AutoCAD, or MicroStation is preferred.
- Strong analytical, technical writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
