About the role#
Michael Baker International is seeking a Civil Intern to join the Surface Transportation team in Columbia, South Carolina. This role provides hands-on experience in civil engineering through a mix of office-based design work and field-based construction support. This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling application process.
What you'll do#
- Generate design calculations, reports, technical specifications, and cost estimates under the guidance of a Project Engineer or Project Manager.
- Draft discipline-specific construction plans.
- Assist with construction inspection activities and documentation under the direction of a Construction Manager.
- Research and solve technical problems encountered in the field.
- Monitor projects to ensure conformance to established plans and specifications.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree program for Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Effective time management with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations.
- Ability to work well with others and a capacity to learn new skills.
- Experience or knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD is preferred.
