About the role#
Michael Baker International is seeking Fire Protection Engineering Interns for our office in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. You will join a full-service architectural and engineering team to work on projects ranging from proposal preparation to final system testing and commissioning. Our work covers various facilities including office buildings, warehouses, aircraft hangars, and maintenance facilities.
What you'll do#
- Design fire protection systems including sprinklers, fire pumps, fire alarms, and mass notification systems.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler and fire pump designs.
- Analyze life safety requirements such as building code compliance, occupant load calculations, and egress analysis.
- Evaluate systems on-site and assist with final testing.
- Summarize submittals and contractor Requests for Information for senior staff review.
- Coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines.
- Support senior staff with general project completion tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore, junior, or senior in a Bachelor of Science program for Fire Protection Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, clean agent systems, high expansion foam systems, fire alarm, and mass notification systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
