About the role#
Michael Baker International is hiring a Bridge Intern for the Summer 2027 term. Based in our Lakewood, Colorado office, this role involves working alongside experienced engineers on various civil engineering projects. You will assist with technical duties, including the preparation of drawings, layouts, and designs using software such as Civil 3D, MicroStation, and ArcGIS.
What you'll do#
- Prepare engineering calculations and develop visual aids.
- Draft details and perform minor CAD revisions.
- Work under the supervision of a project manager or a senior team member.
- Assist with data collection, input, verification, and manipulation.
- Perform data gathering, calculations, and structural analysis for bridge design and load rating projects.
- Create finite element models using structural analysis software.
- Utilize complex Excel spreadsheets for analysis.
- Handle administrative tasks such as filing, organizing project files, preparing meeting materials, and providing scheduling support.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Junior or Senior academic standing.
- Good academic standing at an ABET-accredited university, college, or technical school.
- A minimum 3.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Completed coursework in structural engineering, such as steel design, concrete design, or structural analysis, prior to the start of the internship.
- An interest in pursuing a structural engineering position after graduation.
