About the role#
We are looking for a Planning Intern to join our San Diego office. This role supports our planning department with housing, environmental, and community projects. The internship is scheduled for Fall 2026, running from September through the end of the year. You will work approximately 8 to 16 hours per week, with flexible start and end dates coordinated with the team.
What you'll do#
- Draft long-range planning documents such as General Plan Updates, Housing Elements, Specific Plan Updates, Objective Design Standards, and Zoning Ordinance Updates.
- Support land use planning tasks by conducting research, gathering data, and performing technical analysis.
- Assist with community engagement and outreach, including the creation of presentations, reports, maps, and graphics.
- Prepare environmental reports in accordance with CEQA and NEPA requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a part-time or full-time student in good academic standing at an accredited university, college, or technical school.
- Progress toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Architecture, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Analytical skills and the ability to work independently or within a team.
- Flexibility to handle various tasks common to an entry-level planning role.
