About the role#
The Organics Collection Worker supports the Put Waste in Its Place program, an initiative managed by the Office of Sustainability to divert university landfill waste through on-site composting. This role is essential for the collection and transport of food scraps, helping to divert over 30 tons of waste annually. This is a paid position for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Collect organic waste from various campus locations.
- Transport and deposit waste at the designated campus compost pile.
- Record the weights of all collected food scraps.
- Maintain the cleanliness of work vehicles.
- Coordinate with the departments of grounds and dining.
- Assist with campus education efforts regarding sustainability.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
What you'll need#
- Passion for campus sustainability efforts.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- A basic understanding of organic composting processes.
- Proactive communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Preferred majors include Environmental Engineering, Biology, or Sociology.
Location & details#
- Location: Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.
- Dress code: Work clothes.
