About the role#
The Organics Collection Worker supports the Put Waste in Its Place program through the Office of Sustainability. This role focuses on diverting food waste from landfills by managing the collection and composting of organic materials across campus. The position is paid at $8.00 per hour for the 2026-27 academic year.
What you'll do#
- Collect organic waste from designated points throughout campus.
- Transport and deposit waste into the designated compost pile.
- Record the weights of all collected food scraps.
- Maintain the cleanliness of work vehicles.
- Coordinate with the grounds and dining departments.
- Assist with campus sustainability education efforts.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
What you'll need#
- Passion for on-campus sustainability efforts.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Basic understanding of organic composting processes.
- Proactive verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred majors include Environmental Engineering, Biology, or Sociology.
Location & details#
- Location: Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
- Term: Fall 2026 (2026-27 Academic Year).
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.
- Dress code: Work clothes.
