About the role#
The Engineering Intern Co-op supports the deployment, evaluation, and implementation of Lean methodologies within the Marmon Transportation Group. Reporting to the Regional Lean Specialist, this role focuses on identifying process gaps and driving improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development. This is a development position for individuals looking to grow their leadership skills and operational expertise.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with local teams to identify process gaps and implement improvement activities.
- Manage lean transformational activities and projects at the plant level.
- Facilitate Value Stream Maps and Kaizen events, including A3 charter creation, pre-work identification, and project sustainment.
- Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to employees to support sustainable business improvements.
- Establish performance measures and provide regular data reports to track progress against plant objectives.
- Partner with site leadership to assess business needs and ensure operational priorities are met.
- Collaborate with the automation team to optimize processes and build justifications for automation projects.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management, or Electrical Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
- Ability to lead and influence others without formal control.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently as a self-starter.
- Capability to travel 20-50% to other facilities or shops.
- Previous experience with Lean or automation via internships, co-ops, or class projects is preferred.
- Working knowledge of CAD software like SolidWorks or Fusion 360 is a plus.
