About the role#
This Engineering Co-op position supports the deployment, evaluation, and implementation of Lean methodologies within the Marmon Transportation Group. You will report to the Regional Lean Specialist and work directly with employees at all levels to improve safety, quality, and cost performance. This is a development role for students who want to grow their leadership and operational skills.
What you'll do#
- Manage lean transformational activities and projects at the plant level.
- Collaborate with local teams to identify process gaps and implement improvements.
- Facilitate Value Stream Maps and Kaizen events from initial charter creation to final sustainment.
- Provide formal and informal training, coaching, and mentoring to help employees apply Lean methods.
- Establish and implement performance measures, providing regular reports on progress against plant objectives.
- Partner with the automation team to optimize processes and build justifications for new projects.
- Conduct site assessments and participate in regular management review meetings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program such as Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management, or Civil Engineering.
- Ability to lead and influence others without formal control.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
- Previous experience with Lean or automation through internships, projects, or extracurriculars.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter who builds strong working relationships.
- Capacity to travel 20-50% to various facilities and shops.
