About the role#
Manulife is seeking two Articling Students for a 10-month placement within its in-house legal department. This term begins in July 2027 and offers hands-on experience in commercial, corporate, regulatory, and litigation matters. You will work alongside experienced counsel at a global financial services organization. The program includes mentorship, training, and exposure to complex legal issues.
What you'll do#
- Support lawyers in providing strategic and risk-informed legal advice.
- Conduct legal research and draft legal documents.
- Assist with contract drafting, policy reviews, regulatory compliance, and litigation strategy.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Articling Principal and attend internal training.
- Travel to different Manulife offices as required.
What you'll need#
- A law degree with a strong academic background.
- Demonstrated interest in commercial, corporate, regulatory, litigation, or insurance law.
- A proactive, self-starting approach with a strong work ethic.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts to both legal and business audiences.
- Advocacy, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Digital literacy in MS Office and web-based legal research tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a client service mindset.
- High attention to detail and critical thinking abilities.
