About the role#
The Office of Laboratory Protocol and Special Events is looking for an undergraduate student to build digital tools that automate and improve support for Laboratory tours and visits. You will work on a hybrid schedule, balancing remote work during the academic year with onsite presence during breaks and the summer.
What you'll do#
- Design and create a SharePoint site, an AI assistant, and internal processes for protocol tasks.
- Build automated datasets and Power BI dashboards to track upcoming tours.
- Develop a procedural notebook to guide staff on maintaining these new tools.
- Train department staff on how to use and manage the systems you create.
- Collect user feedback and document processes to support continuous improvement.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited associate or bachelor degree program in computer science, engineering, data science, information systems, or business analytics.
- Experience developing AI-enabled applications or working with large language model APIs.
- Proficiency with SharePoint site design, Power Automate, Power BI, or Microsoft Graph.
- Ability to document technical processes and communicate with nontechnical users.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
- Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. national, or U.S. protected individual).
- Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act.
Location & details#
- Location: Livermore, California.
- Schedule: Hybrid, with remote work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and full-time work during the summer.
- Pay: $23.26 to $31.62 per hour, based on academic year completion.
- Requirements: Candidates must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
