    About the role#

    The Materials Science Division is seeking undergraduate interns for the Fall 2026 term. This role offers the opportunity to engage in practical research within the Materials and Chemistry Institute, focusing on fields such as organic and inorganic synthesis, analytical chemistry, computational science, actinide and optical materials, electrochemistry, and metallurgy.

    What you'll do#

    • Collaborate with scientists on projects involving hands-on laboratory work, computation, or data analysis.
    • Conduct research under close supervision in your assigned area.
    • Gather and analyze data to support ongoing scientific research.
    • Present research findings through formal presentations.
    • Assist with additional duties as required.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution, pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Biology, Computer Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
    • Ability to apply fundamental engineering, scientific, or physics principles to solve technical problems.
    • Demonstrated effective communication skills, including the ability to present concepts and ideas.
    • Proficiency with personal computers and software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
    • Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

    • Location: Livermore, California.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Fall 2026.
    • Employment: Full-time, paid internship.
    • Note: Candidates must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. Access to certain laboratory areas may restrict the use of personal mobile and wireless devices.
