Computing Undergraduate Student Intern - Fall 2026

About the role#

This undergraduate internship program provides practical research experience in computational science, cyber defense, computer science, numerical methods, mathematics, and related STEM disciplines. Interns will work alongside scientists, engineers, and technical staff to contribute to projects, with the program running from September 1, 2026, through December 18, 2026.

What you'll do#

• Provide technical and research support to assigned projects.
• Gather and analyze data to support scientific research objectives.
• Participate in research planning and evaluation discussions.
• Attend at least one relevant seminar per week.
• Present completed work through formal presentations or poster sessions.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution.
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, or a related STEM field.
• A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Ability to apply basic computational science or mathematical principles to solve technical problems.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Location & details#

• Location: Livermore, California.
• Modality: Hybrid, with the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week depending on the assignment.
• Employment Type: Full-time paid internship.
