This role is located in Houston, with the opportunity for flexible work. District Overview Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. is a full-service engineering firm serving oil, gas and chemical markets. Our combined staff of engineers and design professionals have expertise that spans all major engineering disciplines to serve the LNG, midstream, refining, and petrochemical markets. Backed by 130 years of construction experience, our construction-driven engineering focuses on constructability and safety in the earliest phases of projects to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery. Our rapidly growing oil, gas and chemical team, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the EPCC delivery model for dynamic process facilities. Location This position is based out of Houston, Texas. Opportunities for flexible work are available. Responsibilities • Candidate will be a Mechanical Engineer Intern who can quickly become familiar with various Oil Gas and Chemical processes or technologies and make significant contributions. • Interested in industrial process development, conceptual design, or process support with a background in refining, chemicals, or polymers. • Assist with design of mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for oil and gas systems including but not limited to steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, and air and gas systems. • May assist with the procurement process of equipment specifications, bid evaluation and contract administration. • Assist with the generating deliverables for projects, working within strict budget and schedule constraints to execute the process engineering scope. • Assist with preparing mechanical engineering designs, including layout, design sketches, and conceptual design. • Performs and checks engineering calculations following standard methods and principles for projects. • Assist with conducting engineering cost, feasibility and planning studies analyzing customer needs and data including researching, investigation and coordination of other engineers, and providing recommendations to the customer. • Uses specific software packages for process systems and hydraulics modeling and scenario studies (Aspen, HYSYS, etc.) • Contributes to the development of client proposals and project cost estimates. Qualifications • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university program is required. • Able to work full-time during 2022 summer • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suites, Aspen HYSYS and other process simulation tools. • Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well. • Communicates effectively orally and in writing. Present ideas clearly and in professional manner. • Participates on teams effectively. Accepts direction from the team.
