About the role#
As a Field Engineer Intern with the Kiewit Building Group, you will gain hands-on experience in construction management. This role provides exposure to the full lifecycle of vertical construction projects, ranging from office buildings and industrial complexes to sports facilities and hospitals. You will work alongside experienced teams to develop skills in estimating, scheduling, and project operations.
What you'll do#
- Support administrative and construction tasks, including reviewing proposals, specifications, and engineering drawings.
- Perform material takeoffs and prepare cost estimates for project segments.
- Assist in the supervision of subcontractors and maintain communication with vendors.
- Prepare work plans and manage equipment scheduling.
- Monitor job progress, track material usage, and ensure quality control.
- Administer safety programs and maintain records regarding site activities and costs.
- Investigate reported incidents and recommend practical solutions.
- Attend pre-bid investigation meetings and work with suppliers to expedite material deliveries.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret project specifications and engineering drawings.
- Understanding of project scheduling and cost control principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies.
- A valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to access all areas of a construction site in various climates and environments.
- Familiarity with software such as SureTrak, Hard Dollar, Revit, SAP, Pro Log, or Primavera P6 is an advantage.
- Knowledge of federal and OSHA construction safety requirements is preferred.
