About the role#
Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is hiring an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will join our design engineering team to support the construction process. This role involves developing conceptual designs, performing calculations, and managing tasks to meet client requirements while maintaining safety standards.
What you'll do#
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to assess client needs and specify equipment.
- Follow departmental standards, engineering codes, and company guidelines.
- Create I&C design documents, including Master Instrument Indexes, Alarm Setpoint Lists, Control Narratives, and field instrument requirements.
- Analyze customer data to support feasibility and planning studies.
- Assist with contract administration for instrumentation and control systems.
- Answer RFIs from clients and contractors regarding instrumentation, controls, and startup issues.
- Check deliverables from other disciplines to ensure I&C compatibility.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor or Master program for Instrumentation and Controls or Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge of control system programming and logic diagrams.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and PDF software.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate clearly via email, phone, and in-person meetings.
- Ability to represent the company professionally to owners, contractors, and vendors.
- US citizenship is required to obtain badge access.
- Ability to pass a security questionnaire and background check.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The position is based on-site in either Lenexa, Kansas, or Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
- You must be available to work during normal operating hours, with potential for overtime and weekends as needed.
