About the role#
This internship provides a hands-on experience in construction management within the Southeast District. You will work on heavy civil and transportation projects, gaining exposure to the daily operations required to build infrastructure like bridges and transit systems. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Perform engineering tasks using standard techniques and resolve technical problems during construction.
- Assist with project scheduling, operation planning, and cost control.
- Track quantities and manage material procurement, including working with suppliers to expedite deliveries.
- Review project plans and specifications to determine material requirements and pricing.
- Maintain accurate records regarding job progress, costs, and material usage.
- Investigate incidents and identify potential solutions.
- Supervise field activities and assist with contract administration.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Ability to work full-time from May through August.
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to ethics and integrity.
- Ability to travel or relocate as needed for project requirements.
- Capacity to access all areas of a construction site in various climates and environments.
- Commitment to safety and ensuring a secure work environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team or independently.
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
