About the role#
Kiewit is hiring Civil Engineering students for a Summer 2027 internship within our Power Engineering district. You will work on substation, transmission, and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV. This role involves both detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects across the country.
What you'll do#
- Create project design documents and drawings, including bills of materials and transmission line design criteria for PLS-CADD.
- Build, modify, and analyze transmission line, pole, and tower models using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS TOWER.
- Develop construction assembly drawings, material specifications, and structure loading packages.
- Apply field mark-ups to as-built drawings.
- Review project schedules and use the document management system.
- Assist with project coordination and communication with team members and clients.
- Apply corporate engineering standards and take responsibility for the accuracy of your work.
- Identify potential project problems and suggest solutions to the project team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor degree program for Civil Engineering or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, per-unit mathematics, and symmetrical components.
- Familiarity with engineering standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly.
