About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training for individuals pursuing a career in commercial and industrial electrical systems. Working alongside experienced electricians, you will gain practical skills in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting while supporting facility management teams. This role offers a structured learning path to understand electrical systems, safety protocols, and code compliance in a professional environment.
What you'll do#
- Learn to use testing equipment such as multimeters, ammeters, and voltage testers to diagnose electrical issues.
- Assist with inspecting, testing, and maintaining electrical distribution systems, lighting, power outlets, and equipment connections.
- Help install and maintain building electrical systems including lighting fixtures, circuit breakers, transformers, and control panels.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Document electrical work, materials used, and system modifications in facility management systems.
- Support energy efficiency initiatives by learning about LED retrofits and lighting controls.
- Attend regular safety training and strictly adhere to electrical safety protocols and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand how electrical systems integrate with other building infrastructure components.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of education in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory and electrical safety practices.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and mechanical aptitude.
- Good mathematical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols.
- Physical capability to work in various positions and environments, including using ladders and working in confined spaces.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
