About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training for individuals pursuing a career in commercial and industrial electrical systems. You will work alongside experienced electricians to gain practical skills in electrical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting while supporting facilities management teams. This role offers a structured learning path to understand electrical systems in commercial buildings, safety protocols, and code compliance.
What you'll do#
- Learn to use testing equipment such as multimeters, ammeters, and voltage testers to diagnose electrical issues.
- Assist with inspecting, testing, and maintaining electrical distribution systems, lighting, power outlets, and equipment connections.
- Help install and maintain building electrical systems including lighting fixtures, circuit breakers, transformers, and control panels.
- Participate in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Attend regular safety training and strictly adhere to electrical safety protocols and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
- Document electrical work performed, materials used, and system modifications in facility management systems.
- Support energy efficiency initiatives by learning about LED retrofits, lighting controls, and efficient electrical system design.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand how electrical systems integrate with other building infrastructure.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed education in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols.
- Physical capability to work in various positions and environments, including on ladders and in confined spaces.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, mechanical aptitude, and good mathematical skills.
