    About the role#

    The International Rescue Committee (IRC) Youth Education department supports refugee and asylee children in meeting their academic and developmental goals. Interns work across core programs including Youth Tools for Opportunities and Academic Development (TOAD), Youth English Classes (YESOL), Leaders in Training (LIT), and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E). This is an unpaid, hybrid internship based in New York City, requiring 15-24 hours per week.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist in organizing and facilitating online after-school and in-person Saturday programming.
    • Support the Youth ESOL Specialist with the creation of class materials and provide regular feedback to guide instruction.
    • Provide instructional support during online classes, including differentiation and scaffolding for students.
    • Collaborate with the Youth Education Specialist to design and revise pre- and post-assessments, school readiness surveys, and response surveys.
    • Track and document all activities related to youth education and tutoring in the internal database system.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, or recent graduation.
    • Strong preference for candidates with experience in ESOL, ENL, or ELL.
    • Demonstrated interest in or experience working with refugee and immigrant children.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Relevant academic backgrounds include English, Psychology, International Relations, Human Resources, Communications, Sociology, Anthropology, or Public Health.

    Location & details#

    • Location: New York, NY (Hybrid with in-person requirements at the midtown Manhattan office).
    • Term: Fall 2026 (September 1, 2026, to December 20, 2026).
    • Availability: Must be available for Saturday programming.
