    About the role#

    The Youth Education Intern supports the International Rescue Committee in helping refugee and asylee children achieve their educational goals. Interns work across five core programs: Youth Tools for Opportunities and Academic Development (TOAD), Youth English Classes (YESOL), Leaders in Training (LIT), Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), and Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) planning. This is an unpaid, hybrid internship requiring 15 to 24 hours per week from September 1, 2026, to December 20, 2026.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist in organizing and facilitating online after-school and in-person Saturday programming.
    • Support the Youth ESOL Specialist with the creation of class materials and provide regular feedback to guide instruction.
    • Provide instructional support during online classes, including scaffolding and differentiation for students.
    • Collaborate with the Youth Education Specialist to design and revise assessments, school readiness surveys, and response surveys.
    • Track and document all activities related to youth education and tutoring in the internal database system.
    • Assist with program-specific tasks such as proofreading student documents, facilitating workshops, and analyzing assessment data.

    What you'll need#

    • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent graduate.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Experience or a strong interest in working with refugee and immigrant children.
    • Experience in ESOL, ENL, or ELL is highly preferred.
    • Relevant academic background in English, Psychology, International Relations, Human Resources, Communications, Sociology, Anthropology, or Public Health.

    Location & details#

    • This is a hybrid position based in New York, New York, with some in-person hours required at the midtown Manhattan office.
    • Interns must be available for Saturday programming.
