About the role#
The Preferred Communities Caseworker Intern supports the delivery of case management services to vulnerable refugee groups navigating U.S. systems. This role provides hands-on experience in refugee resettlement and social services, focusing on direct client support and administrative assistance within a case management team.
What you'll do#
- Assist clients in accessing essential benefits and services.
- Support Case Managers with client-facing tasks, such as attending medical appointments and providing guidance on public transportation.
- Manage administrative duties including making referrals for additional services and maintaining client files.
- Develop skills in caseload management through direct interaction with clients.
- Gain insight into refugee resettlement processes and social service operations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a post-secondary institution or graduation within the last two years.
- Must be based in the United States.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and file management.
- A strong desire to support refugees as they rebuild their lives in New York City.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment with attention to detail.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations or in case management is appreciated.
- Studies in International Relations, Psychology, Sociology, or Human Resources are relevant to this role.
- Fluency in languages such as Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, Russian, Haitian Creole, French, Dari, or Pashto is a plus but not required.
