Preferred Communities Caseworker Intern

About the role#

The Preferred Communities (PC) Program provides case management services to vulnerable refugee groups navigating U.S. systems. This internship offers the opportunity to support the Intensive Case Management, Supplemental Case Management, and OIRS programs. Interns work directly under a PC Case Manager to gain practical experience in refugee resettlement and social services while providing essential support to clients rebuilding their lives in New York City.

What you'll do#

• Support clients in accessing necessary benefits and essential services.
• Assist the Case Manager with client-facing tasks, such as attending medical appointments and providing guidance on public transportation.
• Perform administrative duties, including processing referrals for additional services and maintaining client files.
• Develop skills in creative problem-solving and caseload management through direct client interaction.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a post-secondary institution or graduation within the last two years.
• Strong desire to support refugees and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general file management skills.
• Experience working with vulnerable populations or in case management is appreciated.
• Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain high attention to detail, and take initiative.
• Effective communication skills for a collaborative team setting.
• Academic background in social sciences, international relations, or related fields.
• Must be based in the U.S.
