    About the role#

    The Immigration Intern supports the immigration team in Charlottesville by assisting clients with various legal applications and documentation. This is an unpaid internship for the Fall 2026 term. You will work on-site and report to the Immigration Program Manager.

    What you'll do#

    • Attend the volunteer and intern orientation.
    • Draft USCIS applications for green cards, naturalization, family reunification, and travel documents.
    • Maintain and organize immigration case files.
    • Track active cases with USCIS.
    • Prepare invitation letters for IRC clients.
    • Communicate with staff regarding scheduling and case updates.
    • Handle clerical tasks like copying and filing as needed.
    • Record your hours through the online volunteer dashboard.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, or recent graduation. A background in Political Science, International Relations, Human Resources, or Sociology is relevant. Preference is given to those pursuing a JD.
    • Strong oral and written English skills. Bilingual ability is a plus.
    • Proficiency with Excel, MS Word, and immigrant tracking software.
    • High attention to detail and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
    • A willingness to follow all workplace policies, including strict confidentiality requirements.

    • This role is based on-site in Charlottesville, Virginia.
    • This is an unpaid position.
