About the role#
The Health Team Intern supports the International Rescue Committee in Charlottesville by assisting clients with their healthcare needs. This role involves direct client interaction, care coordination, and administrative support. The intern reports to the Family Wellbeing Supervisor.
What you'll do#
- Provide transportation for clients and their families to medical, dental, and vision appointments.
- Teach clients how to use public transportation so they can attend their own appointments independently.
- Assist the Health Team with daily administrative tasks, including phone calls, filing, and scheduling medical appointments.
- Help clients with specific medical needs such as prescription assistance or medical bill inquiries.
- Track your hours and submit a timesheet each month.
What you'll need#
- Access to a personal car, a valid driver’s license, and car insurance, along with a willingness to transport clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work with the refugee community.
- Sensitivity to the diverse beliefs, values, and backgrounds of our clients.
- Familiarity with the Charlottesville public transportation system or a readiness to learn the local transit network.
- Flexibility to accommodate changing client needs.
- Relevant academic background in fields such as Public Health, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, or Human Resources.

- This is an on-site position located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
- The internship term is for Fall 2026.
- This is an unpaid, full-time opportunity.
