About the role#
The Health Team Intern works alongside the International Rescue Committee Health Team to support clients with their healthcare needs. This position involves direct client interaction, care coordination, and administrative support to help refugees navigate medical systems. This is an unpaid, full-time internship for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Provide transportation for clients and their families to medical, dental, and vision appointments.
- Implement transit orientations to help clients understand and use public transportation systems.
- Assist the Health Team with administrative tasks, including phone calls, filing, collecting paperwork, and scheduling appointments.
- Provide support for medical-related needs, such as prescription and medical bill assistance.
- Record hours and submit completed timesheets monthly through the online volunteer dashboard.
What you'll need#
- Strong interpersonal skills and an interest in working with the refugee community.
- Sensitivity to client differences, including respect for diverse beliefs and values.
- Ownership of a personal vehicle, a valid driver's license, and car insurance.
- Willingness to transport clients in a personal vehicle and demonstrate flexibility regarding client needs.
- Familiarity with, or a willingness to learn, the Charlottesville public transportation system.
- Academic background in fields such as Public Health, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, or Human Resources.
