About the role#
The Health Team Intern works directly with the IRC health team to support clients with various healthcare needs. This role involves care coordination, advocacy, and providing essential transportation assistance to help clients access medical services. This is an unpaid internship opportunity for Fall 2026.
What you'll do#
- Provide transportation for clients and their families to medical, dental, and vision appointments.
- Implement transit orientations to help clients navigate public transportation systems for future appointments.
- Assist the health team with administrative duties, including making phone calls, filing, collecting paperwork, and scheduling medical appointments.
- Support clients with specific medical-related needs, such as prescription or medical bill assistance.
- Maintain accurate records of hours and submit monthly timesheets through the online dashboard.
What you'll need#
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to working with the refugee community.
- Sensitivity to the diverse beliefs, values, and backgrounds of clients.
- Ownership of a personal vehicle, a valid driver's license, and car insurance.
- Willingness to transport clients in your personal vehicle.
- Familiarity with the Charlottesville public transportation system or a willingness to learn the local transit network.
- Flexibility and the ability to accommodate varying client needs.
