About the role#
The English Language Learning Intern will support the Adult Education Specialist in Charlottesville, Virginia. This position focuses on assisting with educational programs, including ESOL and Cultural Orientation classes, to help refugees and new arrivals gain self-sufficiency. This is an unpaid internship for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Attend ESOL and Cultural Orientation classes on designated days.
- Assist students with class assignments and answer questions regarding language and culture.
- Support classroom operations, including setup, teardown, and integrating digital literacy.
- Provide supervision for young children when present.
- Record hours and submit completed timesheets monthly via the online Volunteer Dashboard.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or a recent graduate.
- Ability to be patient, reliable, and flexible in a classroom setting.
- Academic background in English, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, International Relations, Human Resources, Civil Engineering, or Urban Planning.
- Exposure to global environments and languages is a plus.
- A personal vehicle is not required but may be helpful on occasion.
