About the role#
The Client Engagement Intern supports the Intake and Outreach, Client Voices, and Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) teams. This role provides trauma-informed services to eligible individuals and families to help them achieve self-sufficiency. Interns work directly with clients, colleagues, and external partners to facilitate intake processes, manage referrals, and ensure client needs are met in accordance with program requirements.
What you'll do#
- Organize documents, enter case notes, and input data into departmental trackers and databases.
- Assist clients with booking and preparing for intake appointments.
- Provide live translation services for client interactions and translate written materials.
- Plan and execute outreach campaigns to share information about services and events.
- Support the coordination of client events, including data collection and feedback gathering.
- Research community resources and networks to support outreach projects and referrals.
- Engage with clients in a respectful and compassionate manner.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation (within the last 2 years) from a post-secondary institution, with a preference for fields like Psychology, Public Health, or Human Resources.
- Fluency in a second language, with a strong preference for Spanish or Haitian Creole.
- Experience with data entry and case management software.
- Previous experience or a strong interest in working with refugees and immigrants.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site at the International Rescue Committee office in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
- The role requires a commitment of 15 to 20 hours per week.
- This is an unpaid internship opportunity.
