About the role#
This internship places you at the intersection of GPU architecture, performance simulation, and AI engineering. You will join the AI Software and Hardware Architecture team to help project, evaluate, and optimize future high-performance computing and AI GPU architectures before silicon is taped out. You will work with architectural models and virtual platforms while integrating generative AI tools into our engineering pipelines.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with senior architects to develop and validate cycle-accurate Virtual Platform models for future GPU architectures.
- Implement simulation components using modern C++ and SystemC/TLM frameworks.
- Port and execute graphics and compute workloads like PyTorch, SYCL, OpenCL, and Vulkan across simulated environments.
- Accelerate debugging by using GitHub Copilot and LLM capabilities.
- Prototype agentic AI workflows and tools to improve developer efficiency.
- Build AI-assisted test generation tools and validation scripts using Python and unit testing frameworks.
- Analyze trace-driven simulation data to identify memory bottlenecks, cache misses, and pipeline stalls.
- Create automated visualization dashboards and reporting scripts to present performance trade-offs.
- Investigate anomaly detection in simulation telemetry using machine learning and statistical methods.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master's or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in C++ (C++17/20 preferred) and Python.
- Foundational knowledge of computer architecture, including cache hierarchies, memory coherence, pipelining, and SIMD processing.
- Experience with Linux/Unix environments, Git, and build pipelines like CMake and Ninja.
- Familiarity with AI developer tooling such as GitHub Copilot, Anthropic APIs, or local LLM runtimes.
- Prior project experience in GPU architecture, parallel programming, or accelerated computing.
- Experience with virtual platforms, architectural simulators, and test-driven development.
- Familiarity with hardware/software co-design and performance modeling.
Location & details#
- Location: Santa Clara, California.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Status: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: Paid position.
