About the role#
IMEG is hiring Fire Protection Engineering Interns for the Summer 2027 season. This is a 10 to 12 week paid internship where you will work alongside experienced engineers on real projects. You will gain hands-on experience in engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight for fire protection systems in public-safety, industrial, and federal facilities.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the design of fire protection systems while following code requirements and company standards.
- Support project budgeting and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet client goals.
- Document design decisions, project meetings, and client instructions.
- Coordinate design and schedule information with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and technology teams.
- Maintain project design notebooks and permanent record documentation.
- Review project documents for accuracy before final checks.
- Conduct periodic job site observations and support contract-required services.
- Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources.
What you'll need#
- Completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, or Architecture.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Skills in AutoCAD or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written forms.
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry is preferred.

- This is a full-time, on-site internship.
- Positions are available in Des Moines, Iowa; Louisville, Kentucky; and Boston, Massachusetts.
