About the role#
IBM is hiring a Hardware Developer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work within our Infrastructure and Technology department to develop, test, and provide support for hardware, firmware, and semiconductors. This role focuses on the systems that power IBM zSystems, Power Systems, Storage, and Quantum Systems.
What you'll do#
- Participate in logic (RTL) design, verification, physical design, and analog/IO design.
- Work on signal and power integrity, electronic design automation, and microelectronics packaging.
- Engage in mechanical design, thermal design, and materials analysis.
- Assist with circuit design, printed circuit board layout, and power delivery systems.
- Perform processor and system test, validation, and characterization.
- Support firmware architecture, development, and test failure analysis.
- Contribute to product quality, assurance, and performance modeling.
- Provide customer and field engineering support.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior project or internship experience involving computer hardware or testing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A resourceful, team-focused, and outcome-oriented mindset.
- Preferred: At least three months of experience in designing or manufacturing hardware products.
- Preferred knowledge: Hardware architectures (FPGAs, RISC-V, ARM, MIPS), programming languages (C, C++, C#, Python, or Java), hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog), and circuit simulation tools (SPICE).
