About the role#
This co-op position offers an opportunity to assist with the design and analysis of structural elements and systems, including bridges and retaining walls. You will work alongside senior engineers to evaluate project requirements and design criteria. This role involves performing basic engineering tasks that reflect standard post-secondary curriculum while contributing to real infrastructure projects.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with senior engineers to evaluate project constraints and design criteria.
- Use structural analysis software like MDX, LEAP Bridge, or CSiBridge to verify design integrity.
- Support the preparation of design drawings, specifications, project estimates, and construction documents.
- Conduct site visits and surveys to gather data and assess existing conditions.
- Assist in the development of technical documentation and design reports.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate structural design elements.
- Participate in design review meetings and contribute to quality control processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program with a focus on Civil Engineering.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic understanding of engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles.
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and organize information for project documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to accept and apply direction from supervisors and peers.
- Familiarity with introductory shop drawing and submittal procedures.
- Completion of two years of a civil engineering program is preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred.
- A strong interest in transportation and infrastructure is preferred.
