About the role#
As an Editorial Intern with Nelson Books, you will learn how manuscripts are shaped, edited, and prepared for the printer. This role provides hands-on experience across the editorial process, from initial proposal reviews to final jacket approval. You will work with a collaborative team and contribute to bringing books to life.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Senior Managing Editor by setting up titles, updating title plans, and inputting sales conference materials.
- Prepare notes and trackers for editorial meetings.
- Support Production Editors by copyediting, checking corrections, and performing formatting proofs.
- Fact check citations, Scripture references, quotations, and other sourced material.
- Prepare manuscripts for the interior design team.
- Review back cover copy and final jackets before printing.
- Read manuscripts and provide feedback to editors on concepts, writing, and market analysis.
- Handle administrative tasks and assist with mailings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an undergraduate or master's program, with a preference for English, Journalism, or Publishing majors.
- Status as a rising senior, recent graduate, or entry-level candidate with up to one year of work experience.
- Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and a willingness to learn house conventions.
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- A resume and cover letter addressed to the Hiring Team.
Location & details#
- This is a paid internship at $18 per hour.
- The term runs from June 7 to August 12, 2027.
- You will work 28 hours per week, Monday through Thursday.
- The role is hybrid, with mandatory in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Nashville, Tennessee headquarters. Mondays and Thursdays are remote.
