About the role#
The Spectator is looking for an intern to join our New York editorial team. This role focuses on social media and digital content, helping us turn our journalism, podcasts, and events into engaging material for our online channels. You will work under the New York Editorial Manager and collaborate with colleagues in London and Washington DC. This is a varied position suited for someone who enjoys working on multiple projects.
What you'll do#
- Edit short-form video clips from the Americano show, interviews, and events for Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube.
- Create social media assets using Photoshop and existing templates.
- Manage the daily flow of content across our social channels.
- Identify strong quotes and moments from the Americano show that perform well online.
- Promote articles from our US edition, newsletters, and other editorial projects.
- Assist with events at our New York office, including promotion and guest preparation.
- Provide occasional editorial research and assistance.
- Keep creative assets, files, and social content organized.
- Pitch ideas for new social content and formats.
- Help with general tasks across the New York office.
What you'll need#
- A strong interest in media, journalism, politics, culture, and current affairs.
- Comfort using Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro or equivalent video-editing software.
- A good understanding of major social platforms.
- A visual eye and an instinct for content that grabs attention while maintaining our brand tone.
- Ability to write clean, concise copy for social media.
- Organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving editorial environment.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, video production, social media analytics, Canva, Content Management Systems, or previous work at a student publication is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship based in New York, New York.
- Pay is $17 per hour.
- Includes Paid Time Off for vacation, sick leave, and public holidays.
- There is a potential opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on performance and business needs.
