About the role#

The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship at Harmony United Psychiatric Care provides foundational exposure to medical office operations within a behavioral and mental health setting. This hands-on program is designed for individuals looking to gain professional experience in healthcare. Participants who complete the 600-hour program receive a Certificate of Completion and a reference letter. This is a voluntary, unpaid internship.

What you'll do#

Under supervision, you will gain practical training in clinical office operations, including:

• Performing professional phone etiquette and patient scheduling.
• Utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) through the MEDENT system.
• Managing patient check-in and check-out procedures.
• Overseeing patient flow and the waiting area.
• Learning the fundamentals of insurance billing and coding.
• Handling administrative tasks such as faxing, copying, and filing.
• Applying HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient privacy.

What you'll need#

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School graduate.
• Ability to commit to a consistent schedule (minimum 20 hours per week, including 10-hour full office days).
• Motivation to gain healthcare experience for career development.
• Ability to pass a basic screening, including a background check and a pre-joining drug test.
• Preferred majors include Psychology, Health Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or Biomedical Sciences.
