About the role#
Harmony United Psychiatric Care offers a 3 to 6 month internship program designed for individuals seeking to enter the healthcare field. This hands-on, unpaid program provides foundational training in mental health office operations. Participants receive mentorship and a Certificate of Completion after finishing 600 hours of service.
What you'll do#
Under supervision, you will gain experience in the following areas:
- Learn and perform professional phone etiquette and patient scheduling.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Oversee patient flow and the waiting area.
- Utilize the MEDENT Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Receive an introduction to insurance billing and coding.
- Handle general administrative tasks including faxing, copying, and filing.
- Gain knowledge of HIPAA compliance, patient privacy, and medical terminology.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School graduate.
- Ability to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week, including 10-hour full office days.
- Motivation to gain healthcare experience for career development.
- Ability to pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug testing.
