About the role#
This internship provides a developmental learning experience for individuals pursuing certification as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist. You will learn evidence-based practices for supporting clients in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders. The program offers up to 300 hours of experience, with a maximum of 30 hours per week. You will receive close supervision, mentoring, and instruction, gradually gaining autonomy as you progress. The internship includes weekly hour logs, an individualized plan, and performance evaluations.
What you'll do#
- Engage and support clients using motivational interviewing and enhancement techniques.
- Work with clients to create a Recovery Plan that addresses their specific needs.
- Use client-centered and self-directed approaches for all planning.
- Meet with clients weekly to track the implementation of their Wellness Plan.
- Help clients access internal and external services.
- Link clients to recovery support services that align with CRSS competencies.
- Collaborate with clients to involve family members in the recovery process.
- Monitor client progress and maintain individual wellness portfolios.
- Support clients to ensure sustained recovery after treatment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all client interactions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS/CPRS) program.
- Eligibility to enter an internship based on a school agreement.
- Completion of all required coursework to ensure internship hours count toward your certification.
- Majors in Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, or Health Administration.
