About the role#

The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship at Harmony United Psychiatric Care is a hands-on program designed for individuals looking to build a career in healthcare. This program provides foundational training in medical office operations within an outpatient mental health setting. Participants receive mentorship, structured training, and a Certificate of Completion after finishing 600 hours of service. This is an unpaid, voluntary position.

What you'll do#

• Manage front desk operations, including patient check-in and check-out procedures.
• Handle professional phone communication and patient scheduling.
• Oversee patient flow and the waiting area.
• Perform administrative tasks such as faxing, copying, and filing.
• Learn the basics of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and psychiatric services.
• Gain an introduction to insurance billing, coding, and medical terminology.
• Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA compliance and patient privacy standards.

What you'll need#

• Must be at least 18 years of age and a High School graduate.
• No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
• Ability to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week, with 10-hour full office days.
• Must pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug testing.
• Majors in Psychology, Health Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or Biology are welcome.
