About the role#
The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship at Harmony United Psychiatric Care provides foundational exposure to medical office operations within a mental health setting. This program is designed for individuals seeking to transition into healthcare careers or those without prior medical experience. Participants will gain practical skills and mentorship, culminating in a Certificate of Completion after 600 hours of service. This is a voluntary, unpaid position.
What you'll do#
- Perform professional phone etiquette and manage patient scheduling.
- Manage patient flow and the waiting area.
- Handle front desk duties including faxing, copying, and filing.
- Learn the basics of Electronic Health Records and patient check-in procedures.
- Gain an introduction to insurance billing and coding.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and ensure patient privacy.
- Participate in orientation, shadowing, and supervised hands-on practice.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a high school graduate.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
- Ability to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week.
- Must pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug testing.
- Pursuing or interested in fields such as Psychology, Health Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or Biology.
