About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in the Water Resources discipline. You will work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer to support planning, design, and permitting for projects such as dams, reservoirs, levees, bridges, and stormwater systems. This is a full-time, paid position based in Springfield, Illinois.
What you'll do#
- Develop data using surveys, LiDAR, GIS, and CAD.
- Research local regulatory requirements for specific projects.
- Define hydrologic parameters and calculate design discharge rates.
- Develop hydraulic analyses using software like GIS, HY-8, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and XP-SWMM.
- Prepare plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Conduct field investigations or survey assistance to gather information.
- Document work for quality assurance and write project reports.
- Assist with permitting applications and maintain engineering records.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, or Coastal Engineering.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- A valid driver’s license.
