About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in roadway engineering. You will work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer to support the planning, design, and documentation of rural and urban roadways, freeways, and interstates. This role is based in Lisle, Illinois, and follows a rolling schedule.
What you'll do#
- Prepare plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Gather data for engineering and environmental reports.
- Perform and review calculations related to geometrics, transportation engineering, and quantities.
- Use engineering software including MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
- Conduct field investigations and assist with survey tasks.
- Document and observe construction operations.
- Write memoranda, letters, and general reports.
- Collect and correlate engineering data, maintain project records, and attend meetings.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program at a 4-year college or university.
- Successful completion of your sophomore year.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Analytical skills for problem-solving.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- A valid driver's license.

- Compensation: $21 - $26 per hour for undergraduates; $30 - $40 per hour for postgraduates.
