About the role#
As an Application Security Intern within the GPSU program, you will gain hands-on experience in AppSec tool management, manual code review, and AI harness development. You will work directly with the Northeast AI and AppSec teams, receiving mentorship from experienced practitioners on real-world projects. This role involves building practical skills in security automation and participating in client-facing engagements.
What you'll do#
- Build and iterate on AI-assisted security harnesses, including prompt design and tool integration.
- Develop AI-driven workflows for security reporting and evidence collection.
- Research and evaluate emerging AI models, frameworks, and agentic pentesting tools.
- Contribute to prototype builds that integrate LLM APIs into security tooling.
- Operate and configure SAST, DAST, SCA, IAST, and RASP tools.
- Triage and validate findings from automated security tools.
- Support tool configuration, tuning, and integration in CI/CD pipelines.
- Review application source code for common vulnerability classes like injection flaws and authentication weaknesses.
- Perform manual code reviews and document findings with remediation guidance.
- Collaborate with the AppSec team and shadow client code review engagements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree program in computer science, software engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Significant hands-on experience with multiple programming languages.
- Exposure to languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java.
- A genuine interest in reading and analyzing code.
- Demonstrated interest in AI tools and their application to security.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn.
Location & details#
- This is a remote, paid internship.
- You must be physically located within the United States for the duration of the internship.
- This position is not available to residents of Alaska, California, Hawaii, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Washington, or Wyoming.
- The role is part-time, requiring 25-29 hours per week, Monday through Friday, supporting the Eastern Time Zone.
- The internship term is 12 weeks with the potential for full-time employment afterward.
