The Indigenous Operator Internship is a paid program designed to support Indigenous applicants in launching long-term careers as equipment operators within Alberta’s energy sector. This internship is part of the TRACKS program and is designed to transition into a permanent role. Participants receive comprehensive support, including on-the-job training, mentorship, and assistance with logistics such as safety tickets and equipment.
What you'll do#
Interns work across various energy sector sites, taking on responsibilities that include:
- Hydrovac operation: Performing safe excavation using high-pressure water and vacuum trucks.
- Bulk hauling and transport: Moving fluids, water, sand, and equipment to and from job sites.
- Vacuum and water truck operation: Operating specialized trucks on and around active sites.
- Well site support: Running and supporting equipment for fracturing operations.
- Maintenance: Assisting with well servicing and general site maintenance.
What you'll need#
- Indigenous heritage: This program is open to Indigenous applicants across Alberta.
- Licensing: A Class 1 or Class 3 licence is considered an asset, but it is not required to begin the program.
- Experience: Entry-level candidates are welcome; full on-the-job training is provided.
- Commitment: A desire to build a long-term career in the energy sector and a readiness to learn and grow on the job.

- Location: Red Deer, Alberta (with placements across energy sector sites in the province).
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
