About the role#
This internship at Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) supports ongoing projects in our Birmingham office. You will work on a variety of assignments, including site plans, permit documents, and construction schedules. Managers and colleagues will provide guidance to support your professional development.
What you'll do#
- Prepare reports, site plans, permit documents, and construction schedules.
- Apply technical skills to routine projects with minimal supervision.
- Direct technicians for the production of engineering documents.
- Execute cross-discipline checks and coordinate project tasks.
- Review project documents for quality assurance and conformity.
- Identify and report risk management issues to the Project Engineer.
- Assist with reviewing scope of work issues with consultants and contractors.
- Represent the firm in project assignments and respond to inquiries from clients or regulatory agencies.
- Participate in individual development programs and contribute to the client services team.
- Engage with local professional societies and participate in community service activities.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD software.
- Experience with Civil3D is preferred.
- A/E or EPC experience is a plus.
- Foundations of Engineering Certificate (EIT) is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Birmingham, Alabama.
- The position is on-site and full-time.
- The role involves approximately 80% office work and 20% field work.
- Field work may require exposure to various weather conditions and environments, requiring the use of appropriate protective clothing and gear.
