About the role#
WSP is offering a full-time, 12-week internship for the summer of 2027. Based in Minneapolis, this program provides hands-on experience in transmission line engineering. You will work alongside senior staff on real projects and participate in the Developing Professionals Network for mentorship and networking. The program is scheduled to begin on May 17, 2027, with some flexibility regarding the start date.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering tasks to build your technical and ethical skills.
- Learn the principles of transmission line engineering.
- Assist with design work for new installations, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic enhancements.
- Map transmission line routes using PLS CADD software and aerial imagery.
- Work with utility stakeholders and construction partners.
- Gain experience in model design, material procurement, and the creation of construction drawings.
- Complete assigned training and follow company policies regarding conduct and resources.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited undergraduate program for Civil Engineering or a related field, with a graduation date of August 2027 or later.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Demonstrated interest in transmission lines and a desire to advance your skills.
- Ability to take direction from leadership and managers.
- Basic proficiency in technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets.
- A track record of prioritizing workplace safety.
- Preferred: Enrollment in a Masters or PhD program, previous design or drafting experience, and campus leadership involvement.
- Preferred coursework: structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, foundation design, and surveying.

- Compensation: $23.03 to $29.96 per hour.
