About the role#
This is a full-time, project-focused internship within the Gerdau G. Start program. The role is based at the manufacturing facility in Whitby, Ontario, and requires a commitment of 4, 6, 12, or 16 months. This position is fully on-site with no remote work options.
What you'll do#
- Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Lead and support incident investigations, including root cause analysis and the development of corrective actions.
- Perform risk assessments to evaluate workplace hazards and recommend control measures.
- Assist in the development, coordination, and delivery of safety training programs.
- Analyze health and safety data, monitor key performance indicators, and prepare reports to support continuous improvement.
- Conduct contractor compliance audits to ensure adherence to safety standards and company policies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, Health Administration, Public Health, or Nursing degree program at an accredited institution.
- A record of high academic achievement, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
- Must be returning to full-time studies immediately following the completion of this internship.
- Legal authorization to work full-time in Canada without the need for current or future sponsorship.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
