Coop/Intern - Mechanical Engineer

About the role#

Gerdau North America is seeking a Mechanical Engineering student for an 8-month internship term during Summer 2026. This role is based on-site in Selkirk, Manitoba, and provides hands-on experience working alongside the Engineering or Maintenance & Reliability teams.

What you'll do#

• Update equipment and facility drawings.
• Collaborate with outside vendors and consultants, and assist in managing contractors.
• Support Engineers on capital expenditure (capex) improvement projects.
• Manage smaller non-capex projects.
• Plan maintenance tasks and coordinate the ordering of parts.
• Execute design projects.

What you'll need#

• Completion of at least two years of a degree in a Mechanical discipline.
• A record of high academic achievement, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (3.0 or higher preferred).
• Proficiency in SolidWorks design software; AutoCAD experience is considered an asset.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational qualities.
• Ability to work independently and learn quickly.
• Legal authorization to work in Canada without requiring sponsorship.
