About the role#
General Motors is seeking Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer Interns for the Summer 2027 term. This is a hands-on, full-time position based in a plant environment. You will support mechanical programs, lead projects related to operations improvements, and provide technical direction to support personnel and skilled trades.
What you'll do#
- Perform mechanical root cause analysis and solve technical problems.
- Analyze product, process, and technology to determine the best manufacturing methods.
- Assist in the design and building of tools and equipment, or recommend process improvements.
- Coordinate machinery upgrade projects.
- Assist maintenance personnel in the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
- Troubleshoot maintenance and equipment issues.
- Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 40 pounds, climbing ladders, and standing for prolonged periods.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Mechatronics.
- Expected graduation date between August 2027 and June 2029.
- Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Willingness to work in a loud, non-climate-controlled manufacturing plant environment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, and safety shoes.
