About the role#
GEICO is seeking PhD candidates for a summer internship focused on AI applied research and machine learning. You will work on projects that help transform our insurance business and redefine customer experiences. This is a paid 10-week position where you will apply your technical skills to real business challenges while receiving mentorship from our technology leadership team.

- Work on individual assignments and team projects that deliver measurable value to the business.
- Contribute to technology initiatives and present your research outcomes to senior management.
- Engage with associates across the technology organization to shape AI-driven insurance solutions.
- Strengthen your research, project management, and communication skills in a professional environment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics, with at least two years completed.
- Research experience shown through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or significant project contributions.
- Deep understanding of advanced ML, GenAI, LLMs, and AI Agent foundations.
- Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science concepts.
- Experience using programming tools to develop and prototype AI solutions.
- Ability to write high-quality, reusable code and knowledge of developer tooling throughout the software lifecycle.
- Understanding of monitoring tools and Site Reliability Engineering principles.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Previous professional software development or research experience is preferred.

- Term: Summer 2027 (June 7, 2027, through August 13, 2027).
- Locations: Palo Alto, CA or New York City, NY.
- Modality: Hybrid (2-3 days per week in the office).
