About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027 based in Erie, Pennsylvania. You will work on-site at our corporate office, collaborating with experienced staff to learn actuarial and data science techniques. This program provides hands-on experience in the insurance industry, focusing on data analysis, rating factors, and financial modeling.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply data science techniques, tools, and business applications to conduct analysis.
- Assist with detailed analysis of insurance programs, profitability, reserve studies, and dynamic financial analysis.
- Research emerging trends and techniques in data science and the insurance industry.
- Write programs in SAS and Visual Basic to extract data for reporting.
- Create charts, reports, and exhibits for actuarial studies and state insurance filings.
- Review data for accuracy and reasonableness.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Present rate, reserve, and other analyses to management.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Current pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, or a related field, with at least two years completed.
- Students in their final year of undergraduate study or those pursuing graduate studies are eligible.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Proficiency in probability and statistics, preferably demonstrated by passing the first actuarial exam.
- Basic knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, and database software.
